The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and APC gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, has confirmed the kidnapping of his younger sister and her 12-year-old twin sons.
Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, 43, was abducted around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday while taking her children to school in Ibadan. Gunmen also took her sons, Peter and Paul.
She is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Until her voluntary retirement last year, she worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. She relocated to Ibadan after retiring and was preparing to join her husband, Mr. John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.
Security agencies were contacted immediately after the incident, according to a statement signed by Comrade Femi Awogboro, media aide to Chief Adelabu.
“Preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest,” the statement reads.
“Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.”The family appealed to the public to avoid speculation and not circulate unverified information that could jeopardise security operations.
They also asked for prayers from well-meaning Nigerians.The family said it will provide further updates as events unfold.
