Senator Solomon Adeola (popularly known as Yayi), representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has called on stakeholders’ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the zone to embrace unity and cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeola, who is the APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun, made the call at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party held in Ilaro. He said the meeting was convened to foster unity among various political interests within the party, stressing the need for members to close ranks to ensure victory in the forthcoming polls.
According to him, all groups within the party will be carried along in the campaign and electoral process.
Adeola expressed appreciation to other governorship aspirants, including Gboyega Isiaka and Abiodun Akinlade, for their sportsmanship during and after his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Dapo Abiodun and a party leader, Olusegun Osoba, for their roles in ensuring a rancour-free consensus arrangement.
The senator further lauded Kola Bajomo and Akin Odunsi for facilitating a meeting among leading aspirants ahead of the announcement. Adeola said he was surprised at his emergence as the consensus candidate, assuring party leaders that he would not take their support for granted.
He urged supporters of other aspirants to unite and work towards the success of the APC in the election. “There is no winner or loser in this race. We must stand together and work for the overall victory of the party,” he said.
Adeola added that he had not promised positions to anyone, noting that all groups would be adequately represented in both the campaign and eventual administration.
He also disclosed plans to engage aspirants from other senatorial districts to secure broader support for the party. Earlier, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Ishiaq Adekunle Salako, described the meeting as a unifying platform for stakeholders.
In their remarks, the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; a former Deputy Governor, Salmot Badru; and a former Minister of State for Education, Iyabo Anisulowo, alongside Isiaka and Akinlade, pledged support for the party and Adeola’s candidacy.
They expressed optimism that Ogun West would produce the next governor of the state.
