2027 : Ogun teachers endorse Adeola for governor, back education agenda
Teachers in Ogun have endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), citing his interventions in education.
The endorsement came during an interactive session at Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta, attended by teachers’ unions and education stakeholders from across the state.
The unions included the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Association of Secondary School Staff Union (ASUSS), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), OgunTeach Interns and AOPSHON.
The teachers unanimously adopted Adeola as their preferred governorship candidate, describing his contributions to education as impactful and beneficial to learners across Ogun.
The NUT Chairman, Mr Noah Sewakanu, ASUSS Chairman, Mr Felix Agbesanwa, and ANCOPSS Chairman, Mr Alaba Olugbenle, said Adeola’s interventions earned him their confidence.
They commended his sponsorship of WAEC and JAMB fees for indigent students, saying the initiative enabled many candidates to sit for qualifying examinations.
The union leaders also praised his bursary and scholarship schemes for tertiary students, noting that the programmes had eased financial burdens on students and parents.
The teachers pledged to mobilise support for Adeola’s governorship ambition and urged him to prioritise teachers’ welfare and prompt payment of gratuities if elected.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, described the meeting as an opportunity for teachers to present their expectations to the APC candidate.
Arigbabu commended Adeola’s commitment to teachers and expressed confidence that his administration would consolidate the education reforms initiated by Gov. Dapo Abiodun.
Responding, Adeola thanked the teachers for the endorsement and pledged full implementation of the National Teachers’ Policy (NTP) if elected governor in 2027.
He said the policy aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and places education at the centre of national development and transformation.
Adeola described teachers as the foundation of national growth, saying his personal and political achievements were shaped by the values imparted by his teachers.
He assured the gathering that his administration would strengthen teachers’ welfare while sustaining the progress recorded under the present administration in Ogun.
The senator said he had facilitated the construction of 128 classroom blocks, 56 staff rooms, four modern libraries, 13 ICT centres and eight skills acquisition centres statewide.
He added that he provided furniture, over 300,000 textbooks, trained thousands in ICT and donated 12,250 laptops to students, teachers and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
Adeola said more than 12,000 students benefited from scholarships and bursaries, while 102 buses were donated to tertiary institutions for campus transportation.
He also said he sponsored WAEC fees for 2,137 indigent students in 2026 and funded JAMB registration for more than 15,000 Ogun candidates over the years.
The senator added that he sponsored the bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, reaffirming his commitment to education through sustained funding and interventions.
