The 2005/2006 Alumni Set of the Department of Mass Communication, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, has donated two Bluetooth public address systems to the department as part of efforts to give back to their alma mater.
The Alumni President, Mr. Sylvester Njoku, who led the delegation during a visit to the department on Thursday, said the initiative was aimed at supporting the department and strengthening ties between former and current students.
Njoku described the homecoming as memorable and appreciated the warm reception accorded the team by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dele Odunlami; the Head of Department (HOD), Dr. Semiu Bello; Dr. Akinola Olarenwaju; Dr. Kunle Odule; and other staff members.
According to him, a major proposal presented during the visit centred on collaboration and mentorship between alumni and students.
He said the initiative would create opportunities for students to interact with graduates making strides in Advertising, Journalism, Public Relations and related fields, thereby bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.
The department’s management commended the gesture and expressed readiness to collaborate with the alumni to enhance academic and professional development.
In an appreciation letter dated Feb. 7 and signed by the HOD, Dr. Bello described the visit as symbolic of enduring loyalty and commitment to the growth of the institution, noting that the donation would enhance teaching, seminars, workshops and other academic activities.
He added that the visit inspired students and reinforced confidence in Mass Communication education at the university, while expressing hope for sustained collaboration.
He commended the alumni for donating two public address systems, stating that the equipment would enhance teaching, seminars, workshops, student presentations and other academic activities within the department.
The HOD further stated that beyond the material support, the visit inspired students and reinforced confidence in Mass Communication education at the university, while expressing hope for sustained collaboration in the future.
Other members of the alumni delegation included Mr. Ifedigbo Ezenwa McDonald, Yetunde Shafau, Dr. Aro Adebisi, Seye Adeleye and Olubusola Yewande
