A viral report claiming that Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Overseer of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, denied the existence of a Christian genocide in Nigeria has been debunked as a complete fabrication by the church and multiple credible news sources.
The false story, which emerged online on November 3, 2025, alleged that Pastor Kumuyi made the controversial statements during a press briefing in Lagos, even accusing the United States of seeking to steal Nigeria’s natural resources.
However, an official statement from the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has categorically denied these claims, labeling the report as “malicious and entirely false.”
Church Clarifies Whereabouts, Denies Press Conference
According to the church’s clarification, Pastor Kumuyi was not in Nigeria when the false report surfaced. The ministry confirmed he has been overseas for an extended period, conducting Global Crusade ministry programs in the Oceania and Far East regions.
The church emphasized that the clergyman did not grant any press interviews or hold a press conference in Lagos, as the viral story claimed. It reiterated that Pastor Kumuyi is known for focusing exclusively on gospel preaching and does not engage in political commentary.
Origin of the False Claim
The fabricated report has been traced to a website identified as “Ibom Focus.” It gained traction on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), amid heightened diplomatic tensions following statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump concerning the killings of Christians in Nigeria.
The church has since warned the public against the continued fabrication of stories in the pastor’s name.
