As Nigeria marks the second anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu, has lauded the president’s leadership, describing the past two years as a period defined by “bold, deliberate reforms aimed at repositioning our great nation for lasting prosperity.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Senator Kalu said President Tinubu assumed office at a critical juncture in Nigeria’s history and has shown “courage, clarity, and decisive leadership” in navigating complex national challenges.
He said “from economic restructuring to institutional reforms, President Tinubu has initiated policies that many before him dared not confront. The removal of the fuel subsidy, though initially unpopular, was a necessary step to rescue Nigeria from fiscal hemorrhage.”
He noted that the subsidy removal, long evaded by previous administrations, has freed up funds for more strategic national investments. Kalu also praised the administration’s decision to unify the exchange rate system, calling it a “transformative move” that is beginning to restore investor confidence and transparency in the nation’s financial sector.
On infrastructure, the senator pointed to ongoing developments in transportation, power, and housing as evidence of the administration’s commitment to progress. He highlighted the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund as a “visionary tool” designed to accelerate infrastructure delivery across states.

“These are not mere intentions; they are actions driven by purpose,” Kalu remarked.
Addressing the security sector, Senator Kalu acknowledged the ongoing threats but emphasized that improvements in coordination among the armed forces and investments in their morale and welfare were beginning to yield results.
“Peace is the prerequisite for progress, and this government understands that,” he said.
Kalu also praised the administration’s social investment initiatives, including conditional cash transfers, student loan programs, and support for small businesses. These efforts, he said, demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and a compassionate response to the economic impact of reforms.
“The president has not ignored the everyday Nigerian. These measures are helping to cushion the impact of economic adjustments while promoting equity and access”, Senator Kalu said
On the international stage, the senator credited Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts for strengthening Nigeria’s global standing and reaffirming its leadership role in West Africa and across the continent. He said the president’s calls for economic fairness and democratic stability have resonated strongly with international partners and investors alike.
“Nigeria is once again asserting itself with clarity and strength,” he noted.
Reflecting on his own experience as a former governor and sitting senator, Kalu said he understands the weight of responsibility that comes with leading a diverse and expectant nation. He praised Tinubu for choosing the difficult but necessary path in pursuit of national interest.
“Leadership is not about taking the easy path, but about choosing what is right for the country’s long-term interest — even when it is hard,” he stated.
Senator Kalu urged Nigerians to support the administration’s ongoing reforms, describing nation-building as a shared responsibility.
“These first two years have laid a strong foundation — and I am confident that even greater progress lies ahead. Mr. President, congratulations. Your boldness has opened the door to Nigeria’s renewal, and your leadership will continue to shape its future”, he commended.
