The Special Adviser on Transportation to governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Sola Giwa has absolved officers of the state traffic management agency (LASTMA) of any wrongdoing or involvement in an accident that claimed the life of a street sweeper in the Gbagada area of the state on Monday.
A speeding car had rammed into a female street sweeper in the area around Charlie Boy inward Oworonshoki. Eye witnesses claimed the driver was being pursued by some LASTMA officers, in an obvious attempt to evade arrest for a possible traffic infraction. The driver, according to reports was riding an Honda Saloon Car with registration number EPE 984 DV.
Giwa, in a statement said after a preliminary investigation, it was established that the driver was not chased by any LASTMA officer.

He said: “Immediate investigation revealed that no Lastma personnel was involved in the unfortunate incident.
In addition, it was confirmed that Police men from Pedro Police Station had recovered the accidented vehicle into their custody to aid further and thorough investigation on the incident in order to unravel the real cause.”
The governor’s adviser promised to see through the investigation and make its findings public as soon as it is concluded.
“The Ministry of Transportation wants to assure members of the public that the outcome of the Police investigation would be made public and anyone found culpable would be made to face the consequence of the Law.” He said, while appealing to members of the public to remain calm and motorists to always drive with caution on Lagos roads and highways.
