Following series of allegations including land grabbing against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Senate on Thursday ordered the minister to immediately stop demolition of properties in the FCT.
The Red Chamber said its its ad-hoc committee on the matter will investigate the allegations and make recommendations appropriately.
According to the Senate, the committee will also invite Mr. Wike, to appear before it to explain the reasons behind the demolitions, which have left many residents without homes.
Senator Ireti Kingibe who represents FCT Senatorial District at the Chamber, moved the motion while expressing concerns over the illegal demolition of structures in the nation’s capital. Kingibe called for an immediate stop to further demolitions.
In reaction, the Senate set up an investigative committee to look into the matter and report back to it within a specified timeframe.
