The Sahara Group Foundation has relaunched its Making a Difference Around Africa (MADAA) initiative, rebranded as MADAA Reloaded, to empower African entrepreneurs with access to markets, technology, mentorship, and funding. Launched on Tuesday, the initiative aims to discover and support visionary innovators who leverage local resources to create sustainable solutions for everyday challenges.
Speaking at the event in Lagos, Chidilim Menakaya, Director of Sahara Group Foundation, emphasized the initiative’s role in unlocking Africa’s potential. “MADAA Reloaded connects entrepreneurs with opportunities to scale their businesses, fostering inclusive development,” she said.
Last year’s application cycle attracted hundreds of submissions, showcasing innovations like water hyacinth-based products and renewable energy solutions from recycled materials. “The talent we uncovered inspired us to expand our reach to find more changemakers,” Menakaya added.
As part of the Foundation’s EXTRApreneurship model, MADAA Reloaded prioritizes sustainability, equipping entrepreneurs with tools and networks to build impact-driven enterprises that preserve Africa’s environment. The initiative partners with innovation hubs, community associations, market women, artisans, and traditional leaders to identify talent in underserved areas. A unique “headhunter” strategy will scout rural innovators, ensuring inclusivity.
Bethel Obioma, Group Head of Corporate Communications at Sahara Group, clarified that MADAA is a strategic investment in sustainable development, not a charity. “We’re building pathways for entrepreneurs to thrive and transform communities,” he said. Successful participants will gain access to the Sahara Impact Fund (SIF) for additional capital, alongside visibility and connections to investors and business leaders.
Applications for MADAA Reloaded are open until May 31, 2025, with shortlisting in June and the program launching in Q3 2025. Selected entrepreneurs will receive tailored mentorship, business advisory services, and exposure to competitive markets. The Foundation’s commitment extends beyond the program, ensuring long-term success through sustained support and strategic partnerships.
MADAA Reloaded underscores Sahara Group Foundation’s mission to foster sustainable communities by empowering EXTRApreneurs—bold thinkers driving social and economic change across Africa.
