Despite indications that Ibadan high chiefs may have finally closed ranks to install the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan land, the Otun-Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Abimbola Ajibola, insists that the Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin is ill and not physically fit to rule the ancient city.
Recall that the throne became vacant at the demise of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun and as it is customary, Oba Olakulehin who is the next in rank, is expected to ascend the throne.
Speaking with Journalists on Tuesday at his Sanyo private residence in Ibadan, the Otun Olubadan advised the high chiefs not to rush Olakulehin, since he was sick and not yet fit enough for the task of an Olubadan.
Ajibola asked: “What is in need for hurry? Someone we have not seen. He has not spoken with us. He has not spoken with Ibadan people.
“I am his second in command, I’m his lieutenant. He has not called me to say, ‘My Otun, I’m back. So, tell your people. And when are you seeing me?’ They are just forcing him because of their own selfish interest.”
Before now, the high chiefs failed to reach a consensus on Olakulehin, but feelers showed earlier on Tuesday that the chiefs led by former governor of Oyo state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja may install Olakulehin on Thursday
