The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has launched a severe condemnation of the All Progressives Congress’s ongoing electronic membership registration, branding it a “digital scam” and an attempt to rig the 2027 governorship elections.
In a statement issued on Monday by its State Chairman, High Chief Mrs. Oluwabukola Soyoye, the party described the exercise as a desperate maneuver to conceal the failures of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration.
“The APC’s statewide e-registration is a digital scam designed to mislead the public into believing that the ruling party still enjoys popular support in Ogun State,” Soyoye stated. She framed the drive as a “political referendum” that reveals a deep public rejection of the governor’s “black-market style of governance.”
The Labour Party alleges the online platform is a tool for electoral manipulation. “The people of Ogun State have deliberately refused to participate in any open, physical APC registration because they know the ruling party has failed them,” the statement read.
“That is why the APC has resorted to this so-called electronic registration to rig the 2027 Governorship elections, a system that allows figures to be fabricated behind closed doors without the presence of real members.”
The party’s accusations extend beyond the registration exercise to encompass a broad indictment of the state government’s financial management.
The statement claims that despite receiving N6.7 trillion in federal allocations and N4.21 trillion for local governments over six years and eight months, the administration has left citizens impoverished.
Specific allegations of corruption include the spending of over N3 trillion through the Ministry of Housing to “build and share personal mansions” and the diversion of over N500 billion into the governor’s private residence in Iperu.
The Labour Party further accused the administration of seizing 70 percent of the N10.9 billion Local Government allocation for December 2025, in defiance of a Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy and a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
In a direct appeal for political realignment, the Labour Party called on prominent opposition figures, Dr. Segun Showunmi, Dr. Oladipupo Adebutu, and Dr. Jimmy Lawal, to unite to remove the APC from power in 2027. The party also urged civil servants and major labor unions, including the NLC and TUC, to support its bid to provide a “credible and people-centered alternative.”
The statement concluded with a call for oversight, urging security agencies, civil society organizations, and the Independent National Electoral Commission to monitor political activities in the state to prevent digital electoral manipulation.
As of Tuesday morning, the Ogun State Government and the state chapter of the APC have not issued an official response to the allegations.
