Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has called on his fellow lawmakers to embrace peace and continue working in unity for the collective good of the people.
This appeal comes following a Wednesday ruling by the Lagos State High Court, which declared his removal from office on January 13, 2025, as illegal, unconstitutional, and null and void.
In a statement released by his media office, Obasa described the court’s judgment as a victory for the Assembly as a whole. He emphasized that the ruling should serve as a catalyst for renewed collaboration among members to advance the interests of Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
Justice Yetunde Pinheiro, who presided over the case at the Ikeja division of the court, nullified all proceedings and resolutions made by the Assembly during the controversial January 13 session.
Obasa had filed a suit on February 12, 2025, through his legal counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), contesting the legitimacy of the session that led to his ouster. He argued that the meeting was convened without proper authority or delegation from the Speaker’s office.
His legal challenge was based on nine key points, citing violations of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Standing Orders of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
