Ogun, Ondo and Lagos states will be the most hit by the looming flood predicted to affect a total of 19 states across the nation. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, in its flood alert issued for the month of July, listed other states at risk of experiencing flash floods to include Sokoto, Kaduna, Zamfara, Yobe, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Delta, Edo, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states.
NIMET said these states are at probable risks of experiencing flash flooding events due to the onset of rainfall across the country.
The agency advised residents of the states to relocate if necessary, clear drainage systems, prepare emergency kits, turn off electricity and gas during flooding, strengthen mudslide prevention, and promote community awareness.
NIMET also advised preparing emergency kits, turning off electricity and gas during flooding and strengthening mudslide prevention measures. It however urged residents to take these precautions seriously to minimize the impact of potential flash flooding events.
