Special Assistant to Ogun state Governor on Youth Development, Comrade Olamide Lawal has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his outstanding commitment to educational development through infrastructural transformation, as demonstrated during the 15th Combined Convocation Ceremony of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), held recently.
Governor Abiodun who awarded ₦2.5 million each to the best graduating students from the 2016 to 2024 academic sessions, also donated a new bus to the institution.
These gestures, according to Lawal, were part of the Governor’s determination to uplift the standards of tertiary education in the state.
“For a Governor to have donated a 500-seater ultra modern lecture theatre, further promising to construct the road leading to the auditorium of the Polytechnic and the department of accountancy building construction, a new SBMS block as well as constructing and equipping a modern library among other things in the N2 billion intervention at once, I think it is unprecedented and deserve some accolades.”
Comrade Lawal who is equally the National President of APC Youth League, and was the Students’ Union President of the institution in the 2006/2007 academic session, described the governor’s action as historic, student-focused, and visionary.
“As a former Students’ Union leader of this great institution, I can say with authority that this is the most comprehensive and impactful intervention MAPOLY has witnessed in recent times,”
“His Excellency has proven that under his leadership, academic excellence is celebrated, and students welfare is a top priority.”
These capital projects form the core of the ₦2 billion intervention fund allocated to elevate the academic, structural, and environmental quality of MAPOLY, positioning it as a leading institution in Nigeria’s polytechnic education system.
Comrade Lawal further noted that the Governor’s decision to always reward the best graduating students with cash awards is a signal for merit-based recognition and educational motivation, describing it as a policy masterstroke that inspires excellence and rewards diligence.
“This is not just governance; this is leadership that understands the needs of young people and responds with bold, impactful action,” Lawal affirmed.
He called on stakeholders in the education sector to rally around the Abiodun-led administration in sustaining a culture of academic distinction and infrastructural modernization.
