…. Condemned and Reject Hon Obasa invasion .
The leadership tussle at the Lagos State House of Assembly has intensified, with lawmakers firmly rejecting the return of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Instead, they have reaffirmed their support for the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, despite Obasa’s forceful entry into the Assembly complex earlier today.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Obasa, who was impeached on January 13, 2025, stormed the Assembly complex with heavily armed security personnel. Reports indicate that he forcibly entered the Speaker’s office, despite the Assembly being on recess. His sudden reappearance, coupled with the apparent reinstatement of his security detail, raised tensions within the House.
In a decisive response, members of the Lagos Assembly have rejected Obasa’s attempt to reclaim his former position. A majority of lawmakers have maintained their support for Speaker Meranda, who was elected to replace Obasa following his impeachment.
During a recent plenary session, the Assembly passed a vote of confidence in Meranda’s leadership, affirming that the impeachment process was legitimate and binding. They argued that Obasa’s actions were unconstitutional and amounted to an attempt to destabilize the legislative body.
For now, the Lagos Assembly remains in turmoil, with Speaker Meranda standing her ground and lawmakers refusing to recognize Obasa’s authority.
