The call for the creation of Ijebu State is gaining fresh traction as two prominent monarchs in Ogun East Senatorial District, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona (GCON), and the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, are set to host a joint stakeholders’ forum.
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday at the Aafin Awujale in Ijebu Ode, will bring together key stakeholders from the Old Ijebu Province, now known as Ogun East Senatorial District.
According to a statement signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Tunde Oladunjoye, the event “will be attended by accredited representatives of the people of Old Ijebu Province, presently known as Ogun East Senatorial District in the present Ogun State.”
Oladunjoye outlined the lineup of participants, noting that the forum will include “traditional rulers, members of National and State Assemblies from Ogun East, Local Government Council Chairmen from Ogun East, opinion leaders, businessmen and women, market leaders, and members of religious and community-based organizations.”
The meeting is expected to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m., with attendees expected to deliberate on the long-standing push for the creation of Ijebu State.
This gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, and community stakeholders marks a crucial step in addressing the age-long agitation for the new state.
