Professor of Computer Science, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Isaac Odun-Ayo, has urged the Federal Government to adopt new technologies to combat terrorism and revamp the nation’s security architecture.
Odun-Ayo spoke on Thursday, while delivering the 2nd inaugural lecture of the institution, held at the school premises in Abeokuta.
The inaugural lecturer, stressed the need for Nigeria to engage with new and smart technologies like Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Generative Artificial Intelligence for national security purposes.
According to the professor, the Nigerian Armed Forces must be at the forefront of adopting these technologies to revamp Nigeria’s security architecture in terms of land, air and sea capabilities.
The Professor of Computer Science, equally called on the FG to increase public cloud spending to build social and human intelligence required to deal with hostile non-state actors.
He lauded President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructural Development Fund initiative, saying that the president should also launch the “Renewed Hope Science and Technology Development Fund.”
He advised that the initiative should focus on Cloud Infrastructure and Artificial intelligence.
“There must be a deliberate focus on innovation and technology which will have a multiplier effect on all sectors of our national life.
“President Bola Tinubu, who recently launched the renewed Hope Infrastructural Development Fund. Therefore, should also launch the Renewed Hope Science and Technology Development Fund.
Odun-Ayo emphasised that the curricular of military colleges and paramilitary agencies must reflect emerging technologies like Cloud Computing, quantum computing, and Artificial Intelligence.
Earlier, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, disclosed that the institution was investing heavily in the future of its students in the area of computer science to enable them meet future challenges.
Babalola also stressed that there was need for the country to leverage on technology in her fight against terrorism.
