DevReporting, a new online newspaper established by Development Reporting Services Limited, has officially announced its launch, with Mojeed Alabi, a seasoned journalist and former Development Editor at PREMIUM TIMES, appointed as its Team Lead and Editor-in-Chief. The platform, headquartered in Lagos, aims to promote informed discourse, balanced reporting, and impactful coverage of development issues across Nigeria and Africa.
In a statement signed by Omobayo Azeez, the organisation’s Administration and Finance Control Manager, DevReporting revealed its mission to “disrupt the status quo” with a unique approach to development journalism.
The platform will focus on four major projects: DevCinema, DevCheck, DevCast, and DevStats. While details of these initiatives remain under wraps, the statement promised “rich exclusives, analysis, and investigations” on critical sectors such as education, health, and humanitarian issues.
“Nigerians and Africans should be prepared to witness firsthand how these issues affect the people,” the statement read.
Why DevReporting?
The newspaper positions itself as a response to the evolving needs of journalism in Africa. According to the statement, while the media historically played pivotal roles during the colonial and military eras, the current challenges of poor leadership, corruption, and underdevelopment demand a renewed focus.
“Journalism needs to refocus by significantly highlighting these issues in connection with the people’s survival. That is the vacuum DevReporting has come to fill,” the statement emphasized.
Mojeed Alabi, co-founder of DevReporting, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. A 2005 graduate of English from Obafemi Awolowo University and holder of a Master’s certificate in Diplomacy and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos, Alabi is a two-time winner of the prestigious Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.
As the pioneer Development Editor at PREMIUM TIMES, Alabi spearheaded numerous innovations and partnerships to advance development reporting. His decade-long coverage of the education sector and his tenure as Chairman of the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) have equipped him with a robust network and deep insights into Africa’s development challenges.
“Mr. Alabi is primed to lead a team of change agents in development reporting on the continent of Africa,” the statement noted.
Joining Alabi is Christiana Alabi-Akande, the platform’s Managing Editor. A former correspondent at Daily Trust Newspaper, Alabi-Akande brings over a decade of experience covering education, health, technology, gender, and commerce. She is a recipient of multiple awards, including the “Courage in Journalism” and “2016 Journalist of the Year Award” by the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF).
A polyglot proficient in English, Hausa, and Yoruba, Alabi-Akande is also skilled in digital marketing, making her a versatile addition to the team. Her passion for storytelling and humanitarian service aligns with DevReporting’s mission to drive impactful change through journalism.
DevReporting urged Nigerians, Africans, and its global audience to engage with its content by visiting its website and following its social media pages on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and LinkedIn.
