The Coalition of Yoruba Youth Leaders Forum has expressed sadness over the death of two towering figures in the history of Nigeria , former President Muhammadu Buhari and Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.
The condolence message is contained in a statement jointly signed by Abdulhakeem Adeleke and Tolani Hassan, the Secretary General and President General respectively.
According to the statement, Buhari stood as a symbol of discipline, patriotism, and uncompromising commitment to national development.
” From his years in military service to his two-term civilian presidency, he remained an emblem of resilience and national duty.
” His leadership, though deeply scrutinized, will be remembered for prioritizing anti-corruption, infrastructural strides, and a vision for a more secure Nigeria.
“As youths of Yoruba land and proud citizens of Nigeria, we acknowledge his efforts in stabilizing the country through turbulent times and his dedication to preserving our territorial integrity.
” We pray for eternal rest for his soul and strength for the family and the entire nation to bear this irreplaceable loss,” the statement read .
The forum described Awujale as more than a king and was a phenomenon.
” A royal father of unmatched wisdom, courage, and reformist vision. Throughout his over six-decade reign, he distinguished himself as a monarch who embraced progress and upheld justice.
” His contributions to Yoruba unity, cultural identity, and national cohesion were legendary.
” He was a rare bridge between tradition and modernity, a voice of reason in times of political and social unrest, and a staunch defender of integrity in public life. His legacy will remain a blueprint for traditional leadership across Africa.
” We extend our deepest condolences to the royal family, the Ijebu people, and the entire Yoruba race for this monumental loss.
” May his soul rest peacefully and his memory continue to shine as a guiding light for leaders of all generations,” the statement stated.
