Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege Local Government and Orile-Agege LCDA Lagos have expressed their displeasure with the outcome of Last Saturday’s local government primary election, especially the chairmanship version which took place at the party secretariat in Acme Road Ikeja.
Tunde Azeez was declared winner of the primary winning by 24 votes to clinch the party ticket for Agege while Abiodun Akinola who won by 20 votes was declared party flagbearer for Orile Agege LCDA, but several members and aspirants alleged that the candidates were imposed by Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa in cohort with other party leaders in the two council areas.
On Tuesday, they addressed a mammoth crowd including Journalists to register their protest against what they tagged ‘imposition of candidates’ which does not reflect the wishes of the people. Some of the aggrieved members alleged that since Obasa failed to force his son on the party in Agege, he took the backdoor to impose another stooge of his, -Azeez on Agege and Akinola on Orile Agege.
Wearing branded T-shirts and carrying placards of various inscriptions including ‘OBASA O TO GE’ (Obasa, It is Enough!), the protesters insist that the election be cancelled and a fresh, credible one conducted immediately. The protesters told TheWest they will continue the demonstration until the party leaders listen to them to conduct a fresh, transparent election.
The protest in Agege is an addition to the growing number of protests within the party across various LGA and LCDAs in the state, where APC members and Chairmanship aspirants felt short-changed in last Saturday’s primary
