Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally joined the Accord Party. He was received into the party on Tuesday at a special event in Osogbo, the state capital.
The move comes weeks after the governor resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing unresolved national leadership crises within the former ruling party.
Governor Adeleke’s defection is expected to significantly alter the political landscape in Osun State ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election. It provides the Accord Party, previously a minor political force in the state, with a formidable incumbent governor as its leading figure.
The governor’s exit from the PDP followed a period of intense internal wrangling and conflicting signals over the party’s governorship primary, which was eventually suspended.
While the governor’s media office has yet to issue an official statement confirming the switch, multiple sources within the Accord Party’s state structure have acknowledged his membership and described his entry as a “major boost.”
Political analysts suggest Adeleke’s move to Accord may be a strategic bid to secure a stable platform for his anticipated re-election campaign, bypassing the factional disputes that plagued the PDP.
