A minor fire broke out in a nursing room at Ifako Ijaiye General Hospital on Thursday afternoon but was swiftly extinguished by emergency responders, officials confirmed.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident at approximately 3:20 p.m., containing the blaze to the second-floor room where it originated. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and hospital operations resumed without disruption.
“The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing significant damage to the busy healthcare facility,” said Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. “Our teams acted promptly to ensure the safety of patients and staff.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials confirmed the incident was limited to a single room in the three-story building located on Iju Road.
Hospital administrators assured the public that medical services were unaffected. “Normal operations have resumed, and we continue to provide uninterrupted care to our patients,” a hospital representative stated.
Authorities commended the swift response of firefighters and hospital personnel in preventing further damage.
