The Muslim community in Abeokuta has expressed support for Sen. Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun, ahead of the 2027 election.
In a statement on Wednesday by Adeola’s Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, Sheikh Iskeel Sugar expressed the position on Wednesday at the eighth-day Fidau prayer for Alhaji Shakiru Ayilara, popularly known as “Shako Alhaji”, an APC chieftain in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.
The prayer was held at Sheikh Sugar Mosque, Bode Olude, Abeokuta.
Sugar described Adeola’s emergence as the APC candidate from Ogun West as a divine project that would come to pass.
He said the people of Ogun State had witnessed eight years of leadership by a Remo indigene and that the time was ripe for Ogun West to produce the next governor.
The cleric also commended Adeola’s reported contributions to infrastructure development and support for Muslim pilgrims, as well as the construction of mosques across the state.
The position was supported by hundreds of faithful at the prayer, including Amb. Sarafa Ishola, Baba Adini of Muslims in Yorubaland and Edo State.
Adeola, while condoling with the deceased’s wife and family, said the large turnout at the prayer showed that Ayilara was a good man whose loss was deeply felt.
He said Ayilara had been pencilled down to serve as his Abeokuta North LGA coordinator while he was compiling the list of coordinators, pending the approval of Ishola, before his death.
The senator pledged to continue supporting the family to make the loss less painful, adding that only Allah could console them.
The prayer was attended by Alhaja Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Abiodun, APC deputy governorship candidate; Hon. Olumide Osoba, APC representative for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, and other dignitaries.
Also present were Hon. Laolu Olabimtan, Ogun Commissioner for Budget and Planning, and Hon. Kayode Oladele, Federal Commissioner representing Ogun in the Federal Character Commission.
