Four major court cases challenging the emergence of Sen. Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun have been discontinued by the litigants.
This is contained in a statement signed by Chief Kayode Odunaro, Media Adviser to Adeola, on Wednesday in Abeokuta.
Odunaro said the cases were discontinued successively by the litigants, describing the development as unprecedented as governorship campaigns begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said no reasons were given for the discontinuation of the cases, adding, however, that it was gathered that the litigants had become convinced of the merit of Adeola’s candidacy.
According to him, the litigants have decided to withdraw their cases and work toward the eventual victory of the APC candidate at the February 2027 governorship election.
He listed one of the cases as Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/26, instituted by Prof. Awolola Awoniyi pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, against Adeola, INEC, APC, Guardian Newspapers Ltd. and the Inspector-General of Police.
He said another was Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/844/26, instituted by Arc. Akerele Abiodun John and other officials and members of different political parties against Adeola, INEC and APC.
Odunaro added that the other discontinued cases were Suit Nos. FHC/ABJ/CS/989/2026 and FHC/ABJ/CS/884/26, involving some of the earlier litigants and others, including Dr. Olufemi Soluade, Ogun Chairman of the African Democratic Party.
He said the Awoniyi case was discontinued on Aug. 24, 2026, while the other cases were withdrawn on Sept. 7 in open court.
He added that the various defendants and their counsel were duly informed through Notices of Discontinuance.
Adeola, while welcoming the development, said he remained focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Ogun.
He said he would continue his mobilisation efforts across the state as the campaign for the 2027 general elections gathered momentum.
