Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (APC-Ogun West), the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun, has appreciated the Olota of Ota, Oba Abdulkabir Adeyemi Obalanlege, and members of the Awori Traditional Council for reaffirming their support for Ogun West to produce the next governor of the state.
Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, said the position of the traditional rulers reflected the longstanding aspiration of Ogun West people for equity, justice and fairness in the political leadership of the state.
He stated this in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, following a recent consultative visit by the factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oladipupo Adebutu, to the Olota and other Awori traditional rulers.
The senator said the monarchs had restated their position that, after more than 50 years of Ogun State’s creation, it was time for Ogun West to produce the next governor.
Adeola expressed gratitude to Oba Obalanlege and the Awori traditional rulers for standing by the principle of equity and fair play, describing their position as a firm call to address what he described as an injustice against Ogun West.
He said the position of the traditional rulers was not based solely on personal convictions but followed consultations across the traditional councils of Ijebu, Remo and Egba.
According to him, the outcome of the consultations was a resolution that the 2027 governorship slot should be ceded to Yewa-Awori in Ogun West Senatorial District.
“For the first time in the history of Ogun State, the people of Ogun West and their royalties are united in their support for me to become governor under the banner of the APC, based on equity, justice, fair play and proven competence,” he said.
Adeola also appreciated traditional rulers and people across the three senatorial districts for what he described as a principled position in the interest of sustainable development.
“I will not take the trust and confidence reposed in me for granted,” he said.
The senator recalled that the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, and the Yewa Traditional Council had expressed a similar position when Adebutu recently paid a consultative visit to the area.
