A total of 41 out of 575 graduating students of the Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun, will be awarded first class degree at its 17th convocation ceremony slated for Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Prof. Solomon Makinde, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, disclosed this during a news conference to herald the convocation and the 20th anniversary of the institution held at the school premises in Igbesa on Thursday.
Makinde, who just assumed office as the vice-chancellor, explained that 233 would bag second class upper division, 215 with second class lower division while 46 students would be graduating with third class.
The vice-chancellor noted that the graduates included full time students, students from school of part time studies and 40 postgraduates.
“In Crawford University, we are introducing programmes that will solve problems in communities and in Nigeria. We have new programmes that we are going to introduce.
“We are going to drive our internally generated revenue through strategic ventures, innovative programmes and partnership that ensures sustainability beyond tuition dependent.
“In the first year of this administration, we are establishing a college of health sciences with programmes in nursing, public health and medical laboratory technology.
“We are also introducing music, software engineering in our department of computer and mathematics as well as hospitality and tourism studies,” he said.
He added that the event would start with a lecture/unveiling ceremony of anniversary book by former National Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary, Prof. Peter Okebukola.
Makinde pleaded with the Federal Government that in the spirit of fair play, private institutions should also benefit from Tertiary Institution Trust Fund (TETFund) support.
“The Federal Government should allow private institutions to benefit from what TETFund offers,” he said.
