Former National Assembly member, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa, has strongly refuted claims of a political arrangement with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, dismissing the reports as “malicious, unfounded, and fraudulent.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Tajudeen Obasa, a political figure from Ojo Local Government Area (LGA) in Lagos, denied any connection—political or familial—with Mudashiru Obasa, who hails from Ogun State. The rumours, he noted, falsely suggest that he had facilitated Mudashiru Obasa’s membership in the Obasa family of Ojo as part of a plan to support his alleged 2027 gubernatorial ambitions.
“I wish to clarify to the public that I, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Adekunle Obasa, am not in any way connected to Mudashiru Obasa, despite our shared surname,” he stated. “Mudashiru Obasa is from Abeokuta, Ogun State, while I am from the Obasa family of Ojo Town in Lagos State. There is no political deal between us.”
Tajudeen Obasa, who represented Ojo Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, detailed his educational and political background to reaffirm his Lagos heritage.
According to him, he attended St. Michael Primary School and Awori College in Ojo before earning a Diploma in Law from Lagos State University.
The former lawmaker also dismissed speculation that he had struck a deal with Mudashiru Obasa through prominent Lagos politician Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku.
“It is laughable and fraudulent to suggest that there was any transaction regarding the transfer of family identity. The Obasa family in Ojo Town has no knowledge of such an arrangement,” he said.
He further clarified that the Obasa family in Ojo was not involved in the burial of Mudashiru Obasa’s late father in Lagos. “It has also been suggested that this deal involves Cardinal James Omolaja Odunmbaku, also from Ogun State who allegedly influenced Hon Mudashiru to bury his late father in Lagos to avoid the alleged error of the current Deputy governor remains their business as none of the Obasa family root members is in the know of this.
“None of our family members were part of that, and any claims to the contrary are false,” he asserted.
Tajudeen Obasa warned that he would take legal action if any evidence surfaced linking him to the alleged deal. “If there is any proof of such an arrangement, I will not hesitate to seek legal redress,” he added.
The statement has drawn reactions from political observers in Lagos, with many calling for restraint and an end to politically motivated rumors ahead of the 2027 elections.
