The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially sworn in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government.
The swearing-in ceremony, held on Monday, formalizes a role that the younger Obasa had been acting in for some time. He assumes office following the resignation of the former Chairman, Tunde Azeez (popularly known as Disco), who stepped down last month citing persistent health challenges.
Azeez’s resignation letter, read by the Leader of the legislative house, Adeshina Haruna, stated that his health condition had significantly impaired his ability to discharge his duties. He had been on medical leave since the inauguration of the current council administration.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, during the ceremony, urged the new chairman to prioritize community development and ensure his administration works in close alignment with the state government’s vision and policies.
The appointment solidifies a political transition that had been anticipated, as Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa had been serving as the acting chairman in the absence of the ailing former chairman.
