Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, will on Monday, 23rd June, 2025, convene a high-level Parliamentary Dialogue on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Legislative Framework, aimed at advancing legal and institutional reforms to combat GBV and protect vulnerable populations.
According to a statement signed by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, the dialogue, which would hold at Mitros Hotel, GRA, Abeokuta, by 10:00 am prompt was facilitated by the Ministry and supported by the World Bank under the OGSTEP short-term GBV Reform Grant, in partnership with the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC).
”The one-day dialogue is expected to bring together key stakeholders from the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive arms of government, along with representatives of civil society organizations and advocacy groups, to deliberate on legislative reforms promoting equity, protection, and survivor-centered justice. Central to the discussion will be GBV, Gender Mainstreaming, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Legislative Frameworks,” the statement partly read.
“Critical legislative instruments on the agenda include the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Commission Bill, and the Free, Prior, and Informed Consent and Livelihood Restoration (FRILIA) Bill. The dialogue will focus on implementation strategies and legislative commitments that ensure legal protections are not only comprehensive but also enforceable,” Adeleye added.
According to the Ministry, the dialogue remained a vital step toward developing coordinated, multi-sectoral approaches to gender justice in the State, while reinforcing the strong commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to zero tolerance for gender-based violence and continuous protection for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
“Participants are expected to make practical inputs that would guide sustainable legislative reforms, deepen gender equity, and pave the way for inclusive, responsive governance that meets the needs of all citizens,” the statement concluded.
