The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for six months over alleged public misconduct deemed unbefitting of a traditional ruler.
This comes as the Nigeria Police invited the monarch for interrogation over the biral video where he was assaulting a man over a disagreement not-yet stated.
Governor Dapo Abiodun approved the suspension following an investigation by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which summoned both the monarch and his alleged victim.
The state government cited the monarch’s reckless utterances and conduct, widely circulated on social media, as grounds for the decision.
In collaboration with the Egba Traditional Council, the ministry suspended Oba Ogunjobi and stripped him of his official regalia, invoking Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs’ Law (2021). His status will be reviewed upon further determination of his culpability.
A statement issued by the Nigeria Police claims Oba Ogunjobi is expected at the state police headquarters in Abeokuta today, Tuesday to explain himself.
The statement reads: “The Monarch has been invited to the State Police Command today for interrogation. It is important to note that no individual holds authority over the Nigeria Police Force. An investigation is currently underway, and justice will be served.”
