Lagos State has taken a significant step in local media ownership with the official launch of Nigeria’s first radio station owned and operated by a local government. Ishokan 106.7 FM, built by Mushin Local Government, was commissioned by Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The event, which took place at Oliyide Street in Mushin, saw Governor Sanwo-Olu represented by his Deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
The station’s launch is part of several legacy projects executed under the leadership of the Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Olanrewaju Bamigboye.
Chairman Bamigboye emphasized the pioneering nature of the station, highlighting its role in effective information dissemination to the local populace. “Ishokan 106.7 FM represents a new era in local governance, where direct communication with our community is prioritized,” he said.
The station’s establishment marks a milestone in local media ownership, showcasing Mushin Local Government’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and information accessibility.
