The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Monday launched the International Passport Automation system, designed to eliminate artificial hurdles that come with the application process for a Nigerian Passport.
Recall that the minister promised last week to introduce a technology driven application process which will enable Nigerians, -home and abroad to apply for the passports with minimal interactions with a third party.
Tunji-Ojo said, with the automation, users will be able to submit passport images and supporting documents from their homes, reducing the need for physical visits to immigration facilities.

Here is the chain of process in the newly launched automation:
Users need to access the portal by logging on to; https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/ and input their National Identification Number (NIN), allowing the system to auto-fill data from the National Identity Management Commission.
Next is to complete the Data Fields: Users are to fill in all required data fields with accuracy and completeness.
The third step is the document submission stage: Users are to securely upload their passport photograph and other necessary breeder documents on the platform.
Immigration Office Visit is the next stage: Applicants are to visit an immigration office for biometric capture, ensuring physical verification and identity confirmation.
And the last stage is the Passport Collection: Expect your passport to be ready for collection within two weeks, marking the successful completion of the application process.
What you would need:

You must possess Nigerian Citizenship: Ensure eligibility by being a Nigerian citizen.
You will need a National Identification Number (NIN): Possess the National Identification Number.
ICAO Standards Compliance: Adhere to stringent ICAO standards for passport photographs.
Essential Breeder Documents: Provide necessary breeder documents like the birth certificate and local government certificate of indigeneship.
For passport renewals, applicants must have their old passport number readily available for uploading during the application.
