The Eko Boys High School Old Boys Association (EKOBA), the alumni organisation of the prestigious Eko Boys High School, Lagos, is mourning the death of former Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Chief Frank Ovie Kokori, who passed on, on his birthday, at the ripe age of 80.
In a statement published by EKOBA’s Social Secretary, Ekorian Temitope Oluwabiyi, the old boys association expressed sadness over what is described as a huge loss of one of their members.
The statement reads in part, “The Eko Boys’ High school old boys association, EKOBA mourns the demise of one of their members, who was also a former Secretary General of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Ekorian Frank Kokori.
“Ekorian Kokori who was of the class E64 died in the early hours of Thursday, December 7, 2023, same day he would have been 80 year-old.” Ekorian Olabiyi wrote.
Kokori was educated at Eko Boys High School (EBHS), Lagos and left in 1964. He enrolled at the EBHS after his studies at Urhobo College in modern-day Delta state.
He died in the early hours Thursday, which was supposed to be his 80th birthday at a private hospital in Warri.
Since his death was announced , encomiums have continued to pour in for the late Kokori, especially for his roles in the restoration of democracy in Nigeria. The late unionist was incarcerated for four years, due to his involvement in the call for the validation of June 12, 1993 election which was annuled by former military head of state, Gen Ibrahim Babangida.
