The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has announced it will proceed with its national election, dismissing a legal challenge from a member as an attempt to destabilize the organization.
In a press release dated October 22, 2025, Press Secretary to the AGN President, Ambassador Cornell Udofoa said the election would be held on a tentative date to be communicated to members. The announcement was framed as a response to what the AGN described as interference from Mr. St. Maradona M. Johnson, a previously suspended member.
According to the AGN’s account, Mr. Johnson recently invoked a 2013 Federal High Court judgment. The Guild asserted that this judgment had been fully addressed and rendered obsolete by internal resolutions and reconciliatory actions.
The press release provided the Guild’s perspective on the 2013 case, stating it concerned the administration of a former president, Ibinabo Fiberesima, and the AGN Board of Trustees. The AGN clarified that the judgment did not confer any leadership authority on Mr. Johnson.
The Guild cited an August 2017 Peace and Reconciliation Meeting in Enugu as the event that led to the full implementation of the court order. The AGN stated that the resolutions from that meeting included the dissolution of the previous Board of Trustees, the formation of a new BOT, and the appointment of a Government of National Unity.
The AGN stated that Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas was appointed Interim National President and Mr. Johnson was appointed Treasurer as part of the peace accord. The Guild claimed that following this, Mr. Johnson withdrew all pending legal actions and served two terms as Treasurer before voluntarily leaving office.
The AGN leadership characterized Mr. Johnson’s recent actions as “a deliberate attempt to destabilize the organization by weaponizing legal ambiguities for personal gain.” The Guild affirmed it would not defy a valid court order but rejected what it saw as the misrepresentation of a resolved legal matter.
The statement assured members that the election date would be communicated transparently and that the Guild’s legal team had been mandated to address all arising issues through proper channels.
