The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the Presidency is using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to suppress opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, on Wednesday, the party described Atiku’s remarks as “unfortunate” and a “deliberate attempt to mislead the public” for political gain.
Oladejo said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration remains committed to the rule of law, due process, and the independence of anti-graft agencies, insisting that the APC has no role in EFCC operations.
“The EFCC is not a political tool; it is a statutory body empowered to act on credible intelligence and evidence. Those who have nothing to hide should have no reason to fear,” Oladejo said.
He expressed concern that a former Vice President who once presented himself as a champion of anti-corruption would “attack institutions working to sanitize Nigeria’s political and economic space.”
The Lagos APC urged Atiku to address questions about his own public record instead of “peddling unfounded conspiracy theories,” adding that the ruling party does not need “underhanded tactics” to win elections.
“Our party continues to enjoy the confidence of Nigerians through purposeful governance, infrastructural development, and social investment under President Tinubu,” Oladejo said.
The party called on Nigerians to ignore Atiku’s claims and support efforts to build “a safer, more prosperous, and corruption-free nation.”
