The Ogun Deputy Governor, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has advised personnel of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) not to relent, but sustain their efforts in instilling discipline in motorists in the state.
Salako-Oyedele gave the advice on Wednesday at the celebration of the agency’s 20th Anniversary, and 10th TRACE Commanders’ Conference held in Abeokuta.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the conference had as its theme: “Building Resilient Leadership and Management Models for Traffic Personnel/Manager in Ogun State.
The deputy governor noted that since the inception of TRACE, the agency had played important role in reducing accidents and saving lives on highways in the Ogun state.
“TRACE has proven to be more than just a law enforcement body, through the agency’s enduring spirit of collaboration that existed among all security and enforcement agencies in the state.
“TRACE’s effectiveness has been greatly enhanced by these partnerships and we are grateful for the mutual respect and cooperation that continue to define inter-agency relations in our State.
“Over the years, the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps has become an essential arm of public safety; educating motorists, reducing accidents and saving lives daily.
“From managing congestion in urban centres to ensuring swift emergency responses on our expressways.
“TRACE has become synonymous with discipline and order on our roads and the people of Ogun State are indeed indebted to the officers and men of TRACE,” she said
The deputy governor who is also the Chairperson, Ogun State Advisory Council, while appreciating the good works of the Agency, stated that the people of the state would remain perpetually indebted to the personnel of TRACE, if they could sustain the momentum.
She also commended the outgoing TRACE Commandant, Mr Seni Ogunyemi, who in few days will be retiring.
According to her, the outgoing commandant built not only an institution, but a culture of accountability, safety consciousness, and public engagement.
“His approach has always combined firmness with education, authority with compassion. That balance has made TRACE a model for other states to emulate,” she said.
The deputy governor, however, urged the officers to sustain their legacy of discipline, excellence, and continuous improvement.
“Ogun State is safer, more orderly, and better prepared because of your contributions,” she said.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, commended efforts of TRACE, which they have put into service over the years, and charged them to do more.
He urged the Agency to remain steadfast to the oath of service, which they had vowed to honour.
The TRACE Commander Seni Ogunyemi, disclosed that the feat achieved by the Corps during his tenure were not without sacrifices including inadequate personnel and death of personnel in the line of duty.
He therefore urged the participating personnel to take advantage of the 10th Annual Commanders’ Conference, and assimilate the knowledge that would shared inorder to upscale their service delivery.
