The Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos state Police has arrested three men for organising street carnival, blocking road with the intention of disturbing public peace with loudspeakers around Akowonjo area of the state
According to the police spokesperson in the state, Benjamin Hundeyin, the three suspects namely Julius Osimirin aged 43, Isiaka Kabiru aged 16 and Ajewole Ajugba aged 42 would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is concluded.

Hundeyin said the suspects “were arrested at about 12:23 p.m. on Abatti Street, Shasha where they were setting the stage for their carnival.
“The arrest is sequel to the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni to the Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi to bring to book any person found attempting to break these laws.
“CP Fayoade had earlier met with organisers of the carnival, advising them on the need to get a hall for their carnival and stay away from shutting down streets or disturbing public peace.” The police spokesperson said.

Did residents of that neighbourhood complain? How many communities have halls in Nigeria not to talk of Lagos State? Even the ALMIGHTY WEST – UK/USA to mention a couple do have street carnivals. Those carnivals create and further seals communal bonds. NPF has FAILED in this regard.
2. NPF said it informed organisers of such carnivals all the communities in Lagos State?
3. Personally, I feel this is a bit high handed if the arrest was based on communal funfair and nothing more.
4. Is Nigeria becoming a police state, where freedom of association is restricted?
