The Ogun Government has operationalised the Ogun State Electricity Regulatory Commission (OGSERC) as part of efforts to address power supply challenges and ensure fair electricity pricing across the state.
Speaking at the inauguration of the commission’s 15-member administrative team in Abeokuta, the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, said the move marked a transition from policy formulation to full implementation of electricity sector reforms.
Onasanya noted that the commission, led by its Executive Secretary, Miss Oluwatoyin Sonoiki, had been empowered to regulate electricity providers operating within the state.
He added that the State Electrification Fund would support the expansion of power infrastructure to underserved and rural communities.
According to him, the commission is designed to promote a reliable and efficient electricity market that would benefit residents and businesses.
“The commission will ensure fair tariffs, protect consumers and support the growth of the electricity market in the state,” he said.
Onasanya emphasised that OGSERC would work collaboratively with service providers to deliver improved value to electricity consumers.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr Dipo Ogunfowora, said a strong regulatory framework was essential to the state’s economic development.
He expressed optimism that improved electricity supply would enhance Ogun’s drive toward industrialisation.
In her remarks, Sonoiki appreciated the state government for the opportunity to serve.
She pledged that the commission would operate with accountability and professionalism in regulating the electricity sector.
Sonoiki assured residents of the commission’s commitment to working with stakeholders to improve power supply and meet the expectations of consumers.
