The Lagos State Government has disbursed compensation cheques to 79 residents of the Oworo community, fulfilling a pledge made after their properties were removed for an urban regeneration initiative.
The presentation ceremony was held at the Palace of the Oloworo Kingdom and overseen by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA). The General Manager of LASURA, Tpl. Animashaun Oladimeji Saheed, addressed the beneficiaries, stating that the payment followed a thorough process.
He noted that the government had previously notified all affected residents and conducted an enumeration exercise to determine the appropriate compensation.
Saheed emphasized that the disbursement was a fulfillment of the state’s promise to support those impacted by its development agenda.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to engaging with residents and stakeholders to protect citizens’ rights even as it pursues its urban development goals. Beneficiaries at the event expressed their gratitude for the compensation, which they described as a welcome relief. They assured the government of their continued cooperation with the state’s development efforts.
